Mary Ann Knarr, 1934-2020

Mother Knarr is home with the Lord.

Mary Ann Knarr, fondly known as “Mother” to most of our staff & campers, served here at Camp Sankanac for 49 years as our head cook. She established some of the most memorable Sankanac recipes that have been enjoyed for decades and continue to be enjoyed by our campers today. Even more-so, we remember the lasting legacy Mother Knarr left for thousands of staff and campers over the years. Mother was known for her generosity in personally sponsoring campers who could not afford camp and in giving countless hours, sun up to sun down, serving others faithfully. She poured her love into her foodservice and into her staff, keeping an eye on those who needed a little extra “Mothering” and displaying her sacrificial servants heart to all who worked with and for her. Mother made sure that no one left her dining hall hungry and worked hard to serve food that was camper friendly, healthy and well balanced. She had a way of making everyone feel at home at her tables. The memories couldn’t possibly be captured in one email, but we welcome you to share your memories with the Sankanac staff and with Mother’s family by CLICKING HERE to share a special memory of Mother Knarr. The love that Mother poured into her ministry here at Sankanac is still felt and will continue to be carried on by those who were blessed to witness her ministry.
